1960s Fender Bassman!

Blonde Blackface & Reissue Amp Models

1960s Fender Bassman

If you’re looking for an authentic 1960s Fender Bassman stopping here will get you off to a good start.

Check out a few tips here, then head off to eBay to enjoy the wide variety of used amplifiers available.

But first, here are those tips for you.

Most importantly, choose your era.

The Fender Bassman was introduced in 1952 and discontinued in 1983, but when you narrow your search down to 1960s Fender Bassman models, you haven’t narrowed yourself down to just one era.

In the early 1960s, Bassman bass guitar amplifiers were blonde amps, and they included all of the circuitry and characteristics of the Fender blonde era.

By the mid-1960s, the Bassman -- and most of the Fender line -- had gone for basic black.

Circuitry changed along with the covering, however, so blackface amps don’t sound the same as earlier blonde ones.

There’s no doubt that blackface amps are the most popular ever produced by Fender, but before the 1960s ended, black amps were already a thing of the past.

Silverface amps replaced blackface models before the end of the decade, but silverface models are more closely associated with the 1970s.

So are you looking for an early ‘60s blonde amp?

What about a late ‘60s silver amp?

When most people talk about ‘60s Fender amps, they mean blackface amps, but you can’t be sure.

Almost as important as choosing the era you’re considering is choosing a reputable seller to buy from.

When you make your purchase from eBay, it’s easier than you might thing.

Built-in buyer protections are offered from the company, protecting buyers and sellers.

Paying with PayPal gets you even more protections.

A little common sense goes a long way, too.

For example, it’s a bad idea to bid on an expensive item that’s offered by a seller without much feedback history.

Why would you buy from someone whose reputation isn’t known?

It’s also a bad idea to get involved with a seller who isn’t willing to answer pre-bid questions.

If you write to a seller and don’t get an email back within a few hours, they’re probably not responsive enough to be a good transaction partner.

Finally, enjoy your search. Fender made great amps in the 1960s, and 1960s Fender Bassman amps are no exception.

And if all else fails, the currently available Fender ‘59 Bassman LTD Reissue can take you even farther back in time -- to the tweed era.

According to recent reviews, it’s a trip worth taking.
