Gibson SG Classic P90

Humbucker Pickups Electric Guitar

Gibson SG Classic P90

The Gibson SG Classic is back, in Gibson's new "SG Classic P90.”

This replica brings back the SG body-style that made the SG such a must-have when it reached its high point in the early seventies.

There are few guitars that have enjoyed the popularity of this particular one at that time.

The SG was actually once a remodeled Les Paul, cut a little slimmer and featuring a double cutaway that left dramatic “horns” framing the neck of the guitar (the neck had 22 frets).

Les Paul (the man, not the guitar) didn’t care for the new design, however, and requested that his name not be associated with the popular new instrument.

This was done, and the SG “Solid Guitar” was officially born in 1961.

The reissued SG Classic P90 guitar is a cool mix of old and new features.

The neck tapers, and is almost a perfect in-between of the modern flat style and the vintage necks.

Of course, the fingerboard is Rosewood, like almost every other Gibson.

It is a little heavier at the neck than what you might be used to, but not so much that it’s an issue playing it.

The dual P90 pickups (single coil) put out an awesome tone, especially on a clean-sounding amp, that is a throwback to the guitars from back in the psychedelic era.

The new SG Classic is perfect for playing those old hits from the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Carlos Santana (these guys played an SG at Woodstock in 1969).

Some other well-known…ok, some other awesome…guitarists have favored the Gibson SG over the years, including Angus Young, Eric Clapton, Pete Townshend, and Tony Iommi.

Gibson's SG Classic P90 is available in ebony and cherry, and features all the bells and whistles that are typically found on an SG classic, including the Tune-O-Matic bridge, Stopbar tailpiece, chrome hardware, two volume knobs, two tone controls, and a three-way switch.

The pickups, of course, are P90 humbuckers.
