This guitar is an absolutely beautiful model in Taylor’s acoustic-electric series, with a Venetian cutaway and a Grand Auditorium styled body. This carefully crafted guitar has a solid back and sides carved from East African Rosewood, and a top made out of Sitka Spruce. The abalone trim completes the elegant look. Although the Taylor 814CE is in its element with fingerstyle playing, it can be comfortable flat picked as well. The tone and clarity are beautiful with either style. The bass doesn’t overpower, and the treble rings out pretty and clear. When played with other instruments, this guitar sings out with an attention-grabbing voice that can’t be muscled out by other instruments. It is a beautiful soloing guitar. The pickup system that comes standard on this guitar is Fishman, which many believe is the best there is. Right from the factory, this guitar is set up perfectly, and ready to play. You won’t need to make many (if any) adjustments to the nut and saddle actions to make it sound right. As far as construction and durability, Taylor's 814CE is one of the best. Taylor Guitars prides themselves on superior craftsmanship, and that shines out true in this guitar. The lacquer finish is gorgeous, and strong. It will take more than a small knock to ding the perfect gloss on this model. The guitar is put together to last, and won’t come apart on you…it can take some abuse, not that you’d be out there knocking around a high end guitar anyway… This guitar was even fully crafted in a humidity controlled environment, so that it came out as near-perfect as anything can get. Just be sure you keep your own in a similar environment, so that the wood doesn’t dry out, crack, or shift. A simple home humidifier in your room should suffice during even the driest winter months. With a guitar this nice, you want to baby it. Taylor has made some really beautiful, great sounding guitars over the years, but this model is by far one of their greatest achievements. Taylor's 814CE brings together beauty, strength, and tone-perfect voice, all in one package. It is well worth the high price tag, perfection isn’t cheap.
