Leo Kottke Guitar! Taylor 12 String Guitar Review!

Taylor LKSM

The Taylor LKSM stands for the Leo Kottke Signature Model, and it is just about the most well-known and loved 12-string guitar on the market…for any era.

It’s aggressive, imposing, and has a resonating voice that’s unmistakable.

This is a guitar built tough, for heavy pickers.

One of the things this guitar has, that almost guarantees great sound, is Taylor’s favorite wood combination of a solid mahogany body and sides with a Sitka spruce top.

There is a reason this particular combination of woods make up most of Taylor’s most popular instruments, the bright spruce top is balanced perfectly by the warmer tone of the mahogany.

Added to this killer combination of Taylor’s favorite tone woods, are larger sound chambers and a jumbo sized body that adds even more resonance and makes a guitar that even stands up to aggressive players.

The dreadnought body shape is known for having more of a bass tone than others, but not so much that it takes away from the versatility.

It is still a well-balanced guitar that is good for recording and performing live.

One of the best features of this guitar, and one of the most rare (especially considering that it’s a jumbo) is that it is made with the NT New Technology that makes the neck stronger and stay straighter.

Acoustic guitars often get warped at the neck, from pressure of the strings, and this new technology keeps this from happening.

The aggressive tone of this guitar is perfect for blues and jazz, and for those brooding rock songs that make you imagine smoky bars and raw talent.

This hardness is a hat-tip to Leo Kottke, who actually almost crippled himself because of his famous aggressive picking style.

He was so hard on his right hand that he developed tendonitis that almost ended his career.

The ultimate result was not an end to his playing; it was a radical adjustment to his playing style, and a switch to some slightly less in-your-face music.

The pick was also tossed in favor of a finger-strumming style.

Any man who can still be a guitar legend after something like that deserves a signature guitar model, and Taylor gave him one.

The Taylor LKSM is a good guitar for fans of the 12-string, who have an aggressive playing style, like the guitar’s namesake.
